HISTORY

The Andover Companies offers its insurance programs through three distinct companies. All three companies are managed by the same home office staff in our Andover, Massachusetts office.

Merrimack Mutual Incorporated in 1828, the Merrimack Mutual Fire Insurance Company was the founding company of The Andover Companies. Policies were sold in Massachusetts, in the towns of Andover, Newbury, Beverly, Methuen, Newburyport, and other surrounding communities. The Company enjoyed modest prosperity in its early years. Today, Merrimack Mutual represents over half of the asset base of The Andover Companies.Cambridge Mutual
Incorporated in 1833,

Cambridge Mutual Fire Insurance Company was acquired by Merrimack Mutual in 1913. Cambridge Mutual constitutes approximately one third of the current asset base of The Andover Companies.

 Bay State Incorporated in 1955 as a stock company, Bay State expanded The Andover Companies' market and offered an additional sales program to its valued agents.
